Tragedy in San Diego

Former Chargers safety Terrence Kiel died Friday night in a car accident (here). He was 27.

The accident occurred in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. A witness told police that Kiel was driving a 2004 Chevy sedan the wrong way before losing control and rolling it. Kiel was ejected from the vehicle.

Friends had tried to keep Kiel from driving home from the party and witnesses told police he appeared to be driving in the wrong direction when he crashed.

A four-year player for the Chargers, Kiel was release from the team in February 2007 after pleading guilty to felony and misdemeanor drug charges for shipping prescription cough syrup to Texas, the most significant of several scrapes with the law.

Its sad that this incident occurred. Sober or not, it is extremely dangerous to drive on a big holiday weekend such as 4th of July, especially here in San Diego, CA. Too many people are careless enough to drink and drive and can put people in danger. He was a good player and will be missed.
